Powering positive change in our communities
Supporting the people, organisations and causes making a difference across Northern Ireland.
Solmatix was built in Northern Ireland, and our connection to the communities around us remains an important part of who we are.
As the company has grown, so has our responsibility to use our people, profile and resources positively.
Through charity partnerships, community initiatives, local sponsorships, education and employee fundraising, we aim to support healthier, stronger and more sustainable communities.
Creating impact beyond renewable energy
Our core work helps homes and organisations reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources and make progress towards a more sustainable future.
However, we believe our wider contribution should extend beyond the systems we install. Our community programme focuses on practical partnerships through which Solmatix and its people can contribute time, expertise, fundraising support and greater visibility to important causes.
Our areas of focus are:
Supporting health and wellbeing
Investing in young people
Encouraging education and skills
Supporting local communities
Creating opportunities for employee participation
Promoting environmental responsibility
Using our platforms to raise awareness
Supporting Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke
Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke is Solmatix’s Charity of the Year.
The charity provides vital care and support to people affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions while funding prevention services, health education and research across Northern Ireland.
The partnership has a strong personal connection for Solmatix Managing Director Neville Bell, whose family has been affected by heart-related illness.
Throughout the partnership, the Solmatix team will take part in fundraising, awareness and employee-led activities to support the charity’s work and encourage conversations about health and wellbeing.
Heartfelt Coffee Mornings
Our first Heartfelt Coffee Morning brought colleagues together in the new Solmatix office to raise funds and awareness for Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke.
This was the beginning of a wider programme of activities through which our team can participate, fundraise and learn more about the charity’s work.
Investing in the next generation
The transition to a lower-carbon economy will create new opportunities across engineering, construction, technology, project management and renewable energy.
Solmatix wants young people to understand the range of careers available within the sector and the skills they will need to take part.
We aim to work with schools, colleges and community organisations to:
- Introduce young people to renewable energy careers
- Provide insight into technical and non-technical roles
- Support employability and workplace learning
- Encourage interest in engineering, sustainability and technology
- Share the experiences of people working within the industry
- Create opportunities for site visits, talks and practical engagement
Proud to support our local communities
Solmatix supports local organisations and initiatives that bring people together and create opportunities within the communities we serve.
This includes our support for Crumlin Integrated College and other community-led activities aligned with our values.
Backing the causes that matter to our team
Many of the causes supported by Solmatix are introduced by our own people.
Our colleagues give their time to fundraising challenges, volunteering, community groups and charitable initiatives throughout the year. Where possible, Solmatix helps amplify and support those efforts.
Recent activity includes Operations Director Richard Barrett taking on the 25.2-mile Macmillan Mighty Hike to raise funds for people affected by cancer.
By supporting employee-led initiatives, we can contribute to a wider range of causes while recognising the commitment our people make outside their day-to-day roles.
Working towards a more sustainable business
As a renewable energy company, we recognise that our own environmental performance matters.
We are committed to reviewing how we operate and identifying practical opportunities to reduce waste, use resources responsibly and improve our environmental impact.
This includes considering:
- Energy use across our offices and operations
- Waste prevention and responsible disposal
- Travel and fleet impact
- Procurement and supplier practices
- Environmental performance across project delivery
- Employee awareness and participation
- Measurement and continuous improvement
We will continue developing this work and reporting transparently on the progress made.
